Every week we will focus on the activities of one of our classrooms.
Seventh grade is having a very busy spring! What a perfect time to study plants in Science class, just as our spring flowers start to bloom! The students are involved in an art contest for the Knights of Columbus and are currently writing children’s stories in Computer class. With the increased activities of springtime comes a need to know the first aid procedures they are learning about in Health class. In Social Studies, they are researching US landmarks and creating postcards of them to display in the school. The seventh grade is sure to be staying busy until summer vacation begins!
What do a swimmer, an inventor and a man with “rocks” in his head have in common? They are all biographies that the third grade has had in reading for the past few weeks. The students learned about Gertrude Ederle, the first woman to swim the English channel, a biography by Carol Otis Hurst about her father who studied rocks and minerals and about James Naismith , the man who invented the game of basketball. The students learned the having unique talents or interests are important.
In math class the third grade has been working with bar models to help decides what operation should be used to solve word problems. They have been applying this to solving problems involving measurement with the metric system. Next they will be working with graphs and line plots.
Finally in Religion class, the students have been learning about the Liturgy and the parts of the Mass. Students are becoming more familiar with understanding the Liturgy of the Word, and the Liturgy of the Eucharist, and the meaning of the various segments.
